Resources and Education for Mental Health Awareness

  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) (What is Mental Health? | SAMHSA): Check out this comprehensive website published by SAMHSA to help raise awareness and understanding about mental health and substance use. SAMHSA offers a free National Helpline for individuals and families facing mental and/or substance use disorders.

  • Mental Health First Aid (Mental Health Resources - Mental Health First Aid): Developed by the National Council of Mental Wellbeing, this is a comprehensive resource list that provides guidance and tools for responding to mental health issues (including how to identify, understand and assist someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis or developing a mental health problem).
     

  • National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) (Support Groups | NAMI): NAMI hosts online and in-person support groups that are peer-led and offer participants an opportunity to share their experiences and gain support from other attendees. Support groups are available to individuals living with mental health conditions, as well as family support groups for their loved ones.
     

  • World Health Organization (WHO) (Mental health (who.int)): The WHO publishes fact sheets, guidelines, and global resources to promote worldwide health initiatives and mental wellbeing.
     

  • Talk Away the Dark (Talk Away the Dark | AFSP): Hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, this site offers guidance on how to have conversations with friends and loved ones struggling with mental health issues and suicidality.

  • Mental Health America (MHA) (Take a Mental Health Test – Mental Health America (mhanational.org)): MHA provides free online mental health screeners, as well as “DIY Tools,” online activities, and educational content.
